My Brothers Keeper
I wouldn’t want to tell you how it feels to have someone who’s got your back. You might want to remember though of a time u felt protected even when it felt like no one is around. I felt this way when I saw a young Turkana girl carry his brother on her back under the harsh unforgiving African sun, while no one was around and the young man slept soundly asleep.
What is it that helps us know that we are in safe hands and selflessly give all our trust? As I painted this picture I remembered how the ground was dusty and uneven, so I decided to add actual soil to it, to give it textures and depth by feeling so whoever owns this original painting can have not only the visual but also the feel of touch of the barrenness of the land.
You don’t have to decide which room in your house this painting fits yet, but why is it that the room that reminds you that you are your brother’s keeper always seems to be the sitting room?
The medium I used to paint this picture is canvas, due to its longevity and ease of transportation and my paint was oil-based.
