Description

The painting was influenced by Zaramo’s traditional dance called Mdundiko from Tanzanian.
Mdundiko is one of the traditional and ritual dances (Ngoma) of the Zaramo people living in the Dar es Salaam area, in Tanzania. Mdundiko dances are associated with weddings and the rites of passage celebrating female puberty.

The dance takes place during the golden hour of the day, the warm and gentle feeling of finally setting your spirit free with the expression of dance and feeling of achievement.

The painting is on stretched canvas. I chose canvas due to its longevity, ease of transportation, and the infusion of its acceptance of acrylic paint.

Being a native of East Africa, Mdundiko was an experience I encountered during specific times of the year. I stood by the gate and watched the dancers pass by my house with their drums and dance that rose the brown sand in the air and the glimmering light of the evening sun peeping through.

The darker colors contrasting with brighter colors emphasize the delicate and detailed Instruments.

Original Art on Canvas.
